T! I think you are missing something here, Aftco has donated over a half million dollars to the fishing industry here in the US and to many of the conservation groups in order to keep the fishing industry alive and to fight the fishing closures here on our home front. They have taken on a role in fighting to keep our waters open which most people wouldnt dare .Perhaps you should do a little more research before you start Bashing Aftco's act of kindness.

Why are you giving these people that don't need our help T-shirts? If you want to make a difference do it here in the USA. Look at that kid in the picture with the "tuna shirt" He's wearing a Lacoste shirt you really think he needs you to give him free shirts? The clothes on all those people look pretty nice to me. Maybe I'm missing something here?

I had lionfish sushi in Roatan... it was quite good. Unfortunately the lionfish look a lot bigger than they are... not a lot of meat on them, so any serious fishing of them has to be coupled with a marketing campaign, and price per pound is going to be very high.

It will be very interesting if the Nassau grouper and other local predators learn to kill lionfish on their own. In the Pacific, they have evolved together for millions of years. But in the Caribbean they haven't. They may learn from divers that lionfish are tasty, but will they begin to "teach" each other this without human intervention?

Guy,

Great letter. I'm a pretty fanatical hunter and angler, hardly able to wait for my next 10 day long range trip in November on the Polaris Supreme out of San Diego. But there's a ton of local fishing, not to mention the upcoming hunting season in the meantime! I've never understood any hunter or angler who is not a card carrying, tree-hugging environmental advocate. Don't let the small minded try make you feel bad for standing up and taking action for conservation. They have obviously forgotten or never heard of Teddy Roosevelt and Aldo Leopold.

The new Guy Harvey Line looks awesome! I personally really like the Men’s “Skipjack” Hybrid Shorts, the Chambray Long Sleeve Shirt, and the Mini Check Classic Long Sleeve Shirt. I can't wait to get these when they come out. I really like how the clothing line keeps on coming out with all kinds of clothing and apparel. Keep the new line going!

I agree the Lionfish is invasive and not native to the Caribbean, but to state that it will destroy coral reefs is a little outlandish. They are on every reef in the Indo-Pacific, some of the healthiest reffs in the world.
They are here, not going away, and the lack of a predator does not help, and they will change the ecology of a reef, but not "completely destroy" it.

The reason why an Orca can catch and eat Bluefin Tuna is due stamina, not speed. Although tuna have a higher blood temperature than most fish and they have more red blood (due to the haemoglobin) and therefore can carry more oxygen, the Orca's will still swim them down. Here in South Africa we have seen Orca even doing the same against dolphins! Although dolphins are faster than Orcas, Orca lungs and blow-holes are bigger than dolphins who tire quicker.
